Pincha Mayurasana (‘the peacock pose’) is one of the four inversions we have in our yoga practice and a fun to do as you can see the world upside down, which is a challenge to the body and to the mind, to keep the allignment whilst you are upside down.
The peacock pose (elbow balance) is from the family of arm balancings, which we practice before the handbalancings series and also before the backbend series.
Pincha Mayurasana is an active and warming position, which is working on the arms, the shoulders and the upper back in connection to gravity.
Together with Adhomukha Vrksasana (handstand), the peacock pose is performed regularly next to the wall as well as in the middle of the room (with help).
The ‘Pincha’ is strengthening and connecting the hand with the arm and the arm with the shoulder into the pelvis and the spine.
It is also of great therapeutic value if you are suffering from weak arms, shoulder pain, RSI and fatigue, and might also help with stress headaches.
The Pincha Mayurasana Workshop is for all levels
